Day 1 : March 14 Depart USA to Casablanca

Begin your travels today with a flight across the Atlantic to arrive in Casablanca, Morocco no later than 10:30am on day 2 of this itinerary. Participants book their own flights.

Day 4: March 17 Fes – Midelt

After breakfast we will go to a family home and experience a special Sufi ceremony in the Fes medina. There is a strong sense of spirituality, mysticism, and transcendence, expressing itself through ancient rituals and ceremonies. Fes is a spiritual center for Sufism, a dimension of Islam, and this is a unique experience we are honored toexperience together. After lunch, we leave Fes, and venture south to Midelt, crossing the dramatic and lush Cedar Forest of the Middle Atlas Mountains. Overnight in Midelt. (B,L,D)

Day 7: March 20 Saharan Oasis - Mezguida

After returning from our camel excursion, we will enjoy downtime by the pool.
Prior to lunch, we will have a demonstration and learn how to make a local specialty of stuffed bread baked in the sand, as the nomads have done for centuries.

The afternoon will be spent exploring the desert region including a Saharan oasis and gardens, witnessing how locals extract water from the dunes for drinking and irrigation using an ancient underground system called khuttaras. Our day will be topped with a visit to a local Gnawa community to sip mint tea and experience their unique spiritual music, chanting and a healing ceremony. Day 10: March 23 Ouarzazate - Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech

Ouarzazate is a town known for film production. As we head further west today, we will cross the amazing High Atlas Mountains. The scenery in the mountains is striking and unique, as dozens of Amazigh (Berber) villages accented with terrace gardens, can be seen. One of the highlights for today is the UNESCO world heritage site, Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou. Prior to approaching Marrakech, we visit a women’s cooperative that specializes in making famous Argan Oil and oil products. Overnight at our Riad in the medina (old city) of Marrakech. (B,L,D)

Day 13: March 26 Essaouira

Today, we leave Marrakech and continue westward to Essaouira.
In the afternoon, it will be a perfect opportunity to join for an optional Hammam (Moroccan bath) and massage. A very relaxing way to complete our rich touring experience. This is a practice that Moroccans do to heal their bodies from outside and their souls from inside.
Tonight, we will have dinner accompanied with spiritual music of guembri instrument. (B,L,D).

Day 2 : March 15 Casablanca/Fes

Arrive at Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca, meet your tour guide. Since Hassan 2 mosque is the only mosque that can be accessed, we will grab the opportunity and go into Casablanca center to visit it . We will have lunch, then head to the ancient city of Fes on a beautiful drive through vast and diverse landscapes. Overnight in Fes. (L,D)

Day 5: March 18 Midelt - Tafilalet Palm Grove

Today we drive south through the Ziz Valley to the Tafilalet Oasis/ Palm grove. We will make a stop in Erfoud to see and learn about fossils, for which this area is known. We will end the day at our guesthouse at the edge of the Sahara Desert. (B,L,D)

This evening you will pack a small bag for one-night overnight in the desert the next night, including just the essentials of phone/camera, toothbrush/paste, single change of clothes, deodorant, charger cords, medicines, bathing suit, and water bottle. You will have access to towels, shower, toilet, and sink in your desert tents. Once we leave our guesthouse in the morning you will not have access to it until the following evening. Your remaining luggage will remain at our guesthouse until our return from the desert excursion.

Day 8: March 21 Mezguida, Cooking, Downtime

Today, we spend the day around our guesthouse to soak in more of this southeastern culture. We will participate in a cooking class and prepare a local specialty which will be our lunch. We will visit a 17th century adobe village where we will understand how locals have lived for centuries.

In the afternoon, we make a visit to a local shrine for a nice relaxing spiritual moment. Overnight at our guesthouse. (B,L,D)

Day 11: March 24 Explore Marrakech

Today we have a full day walking tour to explore Marrakech. We will visit the 19th century Bahia Palace, and the 11th century Koutoubia Mosque and gardens. We will then enter the lively souks (“markets”) to experience its colors and its fragrances. Overnight at our Riad in Marrakech. (B,L,D)

Day 14: March 27 Exploration of Essaouira

Essaouira is a small town on the Atlantic coast of Morocco. It is full of history and dates back to the middle ages. Originally named Mogador in the 1500’s, it has been occupied by the Portuguese, Spanish, and French. The present-day city was built during the mid- 18th century by King Mohammed III.

We will explore Essaouira markets within the ancient walls of the Medina, visit its fishing port and dramatic overlooks. Essaouira is an easy place to wander on your own, walk the beach, take a nap by the pool of our Riad, shop in the small and intimate Medina. We will enjoy a final celebratory dinner at our Riad this evening. (B, D) Lunch on your own in or around the Medina.

Day 3: March 16 Fes

Morning departure for a guided tour to explore one of Morocco’s most historic and important cities - Fes. The visit will take us into the medina (“old city”) to see some of its many sections. Each section specializes in certain types of foods, wares, and handmade arts and crafts, such as embroidery, weaving, and ceramics. We will have an opportunity to see artisans making exquisite items using centuries-old traditional techniques. Of special interest are the ancient leather dyeing vats in the heart of the city. We will sample a wide variety of local cuisines. (B,L,D)

Day 6: March 19 Rissani Market - Camel ride and overnight in the Sahara.

This morning, we head into nearby Rissani, a former hub for trans-Saharan trade. We will explore its local markets and learn about medicinal herbs and how locals use them in their traditional healing. We will learn about culinary spices and how they are incorporated in local cuisine. Also, today, we will have the opportunity to enjoy a presentation about textiles and jewelry. This is an opportunity to learn about Amazigh (Berber) textiles, motifs, and techniques, and their uses in local culture. Shopping for rugs, jewelry, and other unique gifts is available, if desired.

We then continue into the desert until we reach the golden sand dunes. We go on a magical camel ride across the dunes for an overnight stay and enjoy a festive dinner at our luxury camp. Be prepared to join the drumming, singing, and dancing circle at our Saharan camp! (B,L,D)

Day 9: March 22 Todra Gorge - Rose Valley

This morning, we begin to head west, stopping at the Todra Gorge to wander along the beautiful river gorge. We will stop for lunch and along the way we pass through a lush valley surrounded by adobe villages and filled with date palm trees – an area called the Trail of 1000 Kasbahs. We end our day in the Rose Valley with dinner. (B,L,D)

Day 12: March 25 Further Explore Marrakech

We will continue to explore Marrakech by visiting the newly restored Ben Youssef Madrassa (or other important landmarks), and a lush hidden garden, with a unique history of water access, called “Le Jardin Secret,” located within the walls of the Marrakech medina. After lunch, we will further explore the souks and help folks who wish to make purchases in this unique market. Our day ends with sunset cocktails and dinner at our Riad. (B,L,D)

Day 15: March 28 Transfer to Casablanca airport

This morning we depart for a few hours’ drive north to Casablanca Mohammed V Airport to fly home. (B)

    to the tour leader on the first day on the ground in Casablanca. These expenses are distributed fairly by the tour leader from start of the tour and throughout as gratuities and appreciation for all those who work and support us during the length tour.

CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS

At the time we receive your written notification of cancellation, the following charges per person apply:

  • More than 120 days prior to trip departure: 100% of total tour cost paid will be refunded.

  • 90-119 days prior to trip departure: 100% of total cost paid, minus $1000 deposit, will be refunded

  • 61-89 days prior to trip departure: 50% of total cost paid will be refunded, and only after the trip is complete. If by this time only the trip deposit has been paid, Moroccan Caravan, LLC will retain the full deposit amount.

  • Within 60 days prior to trip departure, or no-show, full payment will not be refunded.

Fitness and Health:

This journey to Morocco is not physically strenuous but participants should be in reasonably good health to participate. Please be aware that in some remote areas emergency medical care, physicians, and medication may not be readily available. Please bring all necessary medications with you.

Even though Moroccan Caravan LL tours have never had any emergency cases, each participant must be covered by medical insurance that is valid overseas. We urge you to take trip cancellation and interruption insurance.

Conditions and Responsibilities:

Moroccan Caravan, LLC organizes and sells travel programs it purchases from other suppliers. The suppliers are independent contractors, and are not agents or employees of Moroccan Caravan, LLC. They supply services that include, but are not limited to, transportation, accommodations, meals, and excursions using local guides. While we endeavor to make travel arrangements with reputable suppliers, Moroccan Caravan, LLC is not responsible for the willful or negligent acts and /or omissions of such suppliers, their employees, agents, servants, or representatives, including, without limitation, their failure or inadequate delivery of services.

All travel and arrangements are subject to the terms and conditions specified by the suppliers, air carriers and/or applicable governing laws. Moroccan Caravan, LLC and the suppliers providing transportation and any service can accept NO responsibility for losses or additional expenses due to but not limited to delay, inconvenience, changes to or

cancellation of itinerary, sickness, weather, strike, war, quarantine, terrorism, defects in vehicles, breakdown in equipment, any act, omission, negligence or other causes beyond their control. All such losses or expenses will be born by the passenger, as tour rates provide for arrangements only for the time slated.

Moroccan Caravan, LLC is not responsible for expenses incurred by trip members in preparing for the trip (visa/passport fees, equipment, medical, any personal expenses and individual transfers, etc.)

Assumption of Risk:

I am voluntarily participating in the trip with knowledge that it involves some inherent risks and danger including, but not limited to, forces of nature, strikes, wild animals, theft, terrorism, civil unrest cancellation or changes in itinerary, negligent action of others or their agencies, or means of conveyance or accommodation which may not be operated nor maintained to standards common in the United States. This includes health-related issues, and I am aware that medical services or facilities may not be readily available or accessible during all or part of my trip. This includes emergency medical care, presence of physicians, and adequate medication. On expeditions of this type it is not possible to accommodate persons with severe health problems or physical disabilities. It is the passenger’s responsibility to judge the appropriateness of the travel activities to their own physical capabilities. By forwarding the deposit, the passenger certifies they agree with these terms and conditions and that they do not have any mental, physical or other condition or disability that would create hazard for them or other passengers. Moroccan Caravan, LLC and its suppliers take no responsibility for special arrangements or problems incurred by passengers unable to participate in the planned activities. The right is reserved to decline any person as a member of the tour, or to require any participant to withdraw from the tour at any time.

Insurance:

While Moroccan Caravan, LLC Tours have never had a single negative case, you must be fully covered by medical insurance that is valid overseas. You, the participant, are responsible for shopping around and obtaining travel insurance, including coverage for trip cancellation and interruption, loss and theft of baggage, and emergency evacuation. Moroccan Caravan, LLC cannot be responsible for any of these expenses.

Changes in Services:

Individual transfers for those traveling independently are not included in the land or air cost unless otherwise stated. If the group falls below the minimum paying passenger requirement, the expedition is subject to re-pricing or cancellation.

Arbitration:

Any controversy or claim arising out of or relating to this Agreement or the performance thereunder, including without limitation any claim related to this tour, shall be settled by binding arbitration in Boston, Massachusetts, in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association and Massachusetts law. This agreement to arbitrate does not waive or modify the liability related contained in the foregoing paragraph.

Release of Liability:

As a condition of acceptance each participant understands and has agreed to all information above, on the online registration form and the following release of liability:
I / We have carefully read the schedule of activities, requirements, the “Conditions and Responsibilities” provided by this written material, and I/we are aware that the tour involves the risk of personal injury, death or loss (damage) to property. In consideration of the benefits derived by the trip, I/we voluntarily recognize and accept all risks thereof. I/we understand and agree on behalf of myself, my dependents, heirs, executors, and assigns, to release and hold harmless Moroccan Caravan, LLC and any of its officers, employees, agents, or representatives, from any and all claims, including but not limited to liability for delays, monetary damages, illness, injuries, death, or for the loss of or damage to property resulting directly or indirectly from any occurrences or conditions. I/we agree to abide by the conditions set forth under the “Conditions and Responsibilities” and other sections as stated herein or elsewhere published. I/you affirm that I/you are covered by medical insurance, which is valid overseas. I/we affirm that I/we have not relied on any additional oral or written representation of Moroccan Caravan, LLC or their suppliers for executing this release. I/we further acknowledge receipt of this release and I/we understand and accept its terms and conditions. Any questions I/we had concerning this release have been answered to my full satisfaction.
